Governance Policies and Institutional Framework

WORLD FOR WORLD ORGANIZATION (WFWO) is an Italian-based, non-governmental, non-profit organization operating in Italy and internationally.

WFWO was launched on 16 October 2001, on the occasion of World Food Day, and was formally established in 2002 under Italian law. The Organization operates within its established legal and institutional framework and has recognition by the Italian Government  and representative of United Nations at FAO. WFWO also holds and recognition by Italian government, and is in Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC–DESA-UN NGO Section with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) through the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) NGO framework in New York at the United Nations

WFWO’s governance, institutional development, operations, and organizational structures are guided by its Framework Strategy Plan, originally established through the work of the Interim Board of Directors, the Founder, and the negotiating body convened in Rome in the autumn of 2002. The Framework Strategy Plan was subsequently amended to define and strengthen the Organization’s operating structure, governance principles, responsibilities, and institutional procedures.

Governance Framework

The governance of WFWO is founded upon principles of accountability, transparency, institutional responsibility, and effective organizational management. The Organization’s governance framework provides the basis for the proper exercise of responsibilities by its governing bodies and for the implementation of its objectives and programmes in accordance with its established rules and procedures.

The principal governance instruments of WFWO include:

• The WFWO Bylaws;
• The Executive Board of Directors Operating Procedures;
• The Framework Strategy Plan;
• Specific Board Decisions and Resolutions; and
• Other Board-approved policies, procedures, and institutional guidelines.

These instruments collectively establish the framework within which WFWO’s governing bodies, officers, representatives, and operational structures carry out their respective responsibilities.

Board Governance and Institutional Oversight

The Executive Board of Directors constitutes a central component of WFWO’s governance structure and is responsible for exercising the functions and responsibilities assigned to it under the Organization’s governing instruments.

Board decisions, policies, and operating procedures provide the institutional basis for the Organization’s administration, programmes, partnerships, and international activities. Where appropriate, additional policies and procedures may be adopted or amended through duly authorized decisions of the competent governing bodies.

Transparency and Access to Governance Documents

WFWO is committed to maintaining an accessible and clearly defined governance framework. Its principal governance documents, policies, procedures, and relevant Board-approved guidelines are made available through the WFWO website, subject to the Organization’s applicable legal, institutional, and administrative requirements.

The publication of these documents supports WFWO’s commitment to good governance, transparency, accountability, and responsible institutional stewardship and provides stakeholders with a clear understanding of the principles and procedures that guide the Organization’s work.

Through its governance framework, WFWO seeks to ensure that its institutional structures and international activities remain aligned with its founding objectives, applicable legal requirements, and its commitment to advancing its humanitarian and development mission in Italy and internationally.
